About Us

Headteacher's Welcome

A personal welcome from our Headteacher.

It is my great privilege to welcome you to The Lewis School, a new school built upon the proud histories and traditions of Lewis School Pengam and Lewis Girls’ School. As we bring these two communities together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to create something special: a school that honours its past while embracing the possibilities of its future.

At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: Every Person Matters.

We want every young person who walks through our doors to feel known, valued and respected. We want them to feel that they belong, that their voice matters and that there are people who believe in them, even at those moments when they might struggle to believe in themselves. This sense of belonging is the foundation upon which we build our aspirations for every member of our school community.

We are unapologetically ambitious for our pupils. We believe that every young person has the capacity to excel, although excellence will look different for each individual. Academic achievement is enormously important to us. The knowledge, skills and qualifications our pupils gain provide a passport to future opportunities, opening doors to further education, apprenticeships, careers and experiences that can transform their lives. Equally, we celebrate excellence in sport, the arts, leadership, service to others and the personal achievements of young people who overcome adversity.

One of our greatest responsibilities is to broaden horizons. We want our pupils to discover possibilities they may never have imagined for themselves, to develop the confidence to pursue their ambitions and to understand that their background should never determine their destination. Through excellent teaching, enriching experiences and the encouragement of staff who genuinely care, we aim to help every young person discover their own path and develop the confidence to follow it.

Our school is built upon relationships. Our dedicated teachers and support staff work together to create a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment where young people are encouraged to be curious, to take risks, to learn from mistakes and to keep moving forward. Kindness, courage, respect and integrity are the values we seek to demonstrate in our everyday actions and relationships. They shape how we treat one another and the community we are building together.

Our two historic school mottos capture something particularly important about our shared philosophy. Ni Ddychwel Doe reminds us that yesterday never returns, while Deffro! Mae’n ddydd calls upon us to wake to the opportunities of a new day. Together, they express a belief that sits at the heart of our new school:

Yesterday doesn’t define us. Today is full of possibility.

Ultimately, our ambition extends beyond examination results, important though they are. We want our young people to leave The Lewis School with excellent qualifications, lasting friendships, confidence in their abilities, a strong sense of who they are and the courage to shape their own futures. Above all, we want them to look back on their time with us knowing that they belonged to a community that cared for them, challenged them and never stopped believing in what they could become.

I look forward to welcoming you to our school and working together to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to belong, to excel and to flourish.
